Man-O-War Cay

Most likely, your tour of Man-O-War Cay will start at the ferry dock.
After a few minutes, you’ll turn left onto the Front Street and pass Gospel Chapel, one of the three churches on the island. Feel free to drop in.
You’ll also pass the Man-O-War Marina and their on site store, The Painted Fish. Look for resort wear, swim wear, and snorkeling gear.
There’s a new restaurant with an open air atmosphere overlooking the marina! Sample the grilled steaks, conch, fish, crawfish, depending on the season.
Stop by Island Treats on the corner for a nice cool slushie, ice cream, or a refreshing and tasty ‘hurricane’ - we don’t have blizzards in the Bahamas. Or get take out and the absolute best buffalo chicken tenders and ‘chicken in da bag’ – tasty fried chicken and fries in a brown paper bag, napped in hot sauce and ketchup. Delicious! Enjoy while sitting under the palm trees in the peaceful setting.

Continuing down the Front Street, pass the hardware store and stop at Albury Boat Brothers shed.
Watch the workers build the famous Man-O-War fiberglass boats. How famous? Well, put it this way, waiting time on your boat is probably two years, the demand is so great.
Keep walking and you’ll get to the Hibiscus Café, which is open for lunch and dinner. It’s a great place to dine in the evenings. My personal favorite is rack of lamb, with coconut shrimp and coconut conch coming in a close second.
Pop in to Joe’s Studio next door, for local wood works, souvenirs and other gift items.

Albury’s Harbour Store is also on the sea front road. If your boat’s moored in our safe harbour, tie up at their dock and fill up on groceries. As you come to the end of the Front Street you can’t miss the Albury Sail Shop. Built out over the water, this is a must see.
Their custom-made canvas travel bags, briefcases, purses and hats are in great demand.

You’ll get your exercise as you walk or trot up the hill to the Queen’s Highway. This road stretches from one end of M-O-W to the other.
The top street is dotted with the yesteryear homes as well as newer homes and businesses. Keep an eye out for Belle Enas T-shirt Shop for clothing, swim suits, souvenirs and gift items. Next door is M-O-W Grocery, the larger of the two grocery stores on the island.

New Life Bible Church is on the corner at the local library. A play ground complete with a volleyball/ tennis court is across from the church and there’s a soft ball field at the end of the street. I used to live next to the ball field when I was a kid, so you can imagine how many times I heard a ball land on our roof! This meant a foul ball!

Walking up a bit further you’ll pass Church of God and, at the end of the street, the cemetery. Why mention a cemetery? Well most visitors think it’s the prettiest and most well-kept cemetery they’ve ever seen. In fact, there’s strong opinion that Man-O-War is the cleanest and prettiest island in Abaco.

Go back down the hill, turn to the left you’ll find yourself back at the ferry dock. You’ve completed your walking tour.
There are many cross roads and so much more to explore. Most cross roads lead to the north side where you can find a beach and swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
Man-O-War’s North side has quite a few beaches running up and down its shores. There are a few beaches also on the Sea of Abaco side. One of the popular spots is called ‘The Low Place.’
It’s the narrowest spot on the Island – not even a 100’ wide. You can stand on the beach on Low Place on the Sea of Abaco and if it’s a rough day you’ll feel the spray from the swells breaking on the Atlantic side.
You’ll notice I didn’t mention night clubs, bars or liquor stores. This is because M-O-W is a dry island and no liquor is sold here.
However, wine, beer and alcoholic beverages may be purchased in Marsh Harbour on the mainland and brought over on the ferry.
